Η συμμαχία με την ονομασία Alliance for Open Media μόλις το ανακοίνωσε. Το νέο, χωρίς δικαιώματα AV1 video φορμά που έχει φτιαχτεί ειδικά για την εποχή του βίντεο στο internet. Τι επαναστατικό έχει;
Σε σχέση με το VP9 και το HEVC είναι ταχύτερο κατά 40% και μπορεί να “outperform VP9 and even HEVC by up to 40%” or 30% on average” όπως λένε δοκιμές της Bitmovin.
Πιο αποτελεσματική συμπίεση, άρα λιγότερο bandwidth για 4K ή και 8K στο διαδίκτυο. Ποιοι το ετοίμασαν; Το AV1 το έχει ετοιμάσει η εταιρία AOMedia με μέλη τις: Amazon, Apple, Arm, Cisco, Facebook, Google, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Mozilla, Netflix και NVIDIA.
“Nearly three years after launching AOMedia, the AV1 codec addresses real bottlenecks for unleashing the highest-quality video for the entire ecosystem, allowing for better viewing experiences across all screens and data networks,” είπε ο AOMedia Executive Director κ.Gabe Frost.
Το Netflix δε αποφάσισε πως θα χρησιμοποιήσει το AV1 για video streaming. Και καθώς ΔΕΝ έχει δικαιώματα, λογικά ακόμη και αν το αντικαταστάτης του HEVC, το Future Video Codec (FVC) έρχεται, θα το διαλέξουν πολλές εταιρίες.
